Who am I?

I'm from Houston, a graduate of the University of Texas, a fan of the Houston Astros and Houston Texans. But this blog will be about the "greater sports", whatever that means.

2012 MLB Preview

I realize the season started over a week ago, but I wanted to chime in with my thoughts on the season, promise to be honest with my thoughts before seeing what I've seen. And I'd be stupid to change anything otherwise based upon fewer than 10 games...

I'll run through the divisions, with approximate games back and a short thought or two.

AL East
NYY (Champ): Too many sticks to lose
TAM (6 GB, Wild Card): Reloaded with young pitching
BOS (8 GB): Not enough pitching, Valentine will be a disaster
TOR (25 GB): Got some pop, not enough pitching
BAL (30 GB): Improving team, tough division

AL Central
DET (Champ): Far and away the most talent
MIN (10 GB): I got a good vibe about this team
KC (12 GB): Better hitting than you think
CLE (18 GB): A couple years away
CWS (20 GB): Rebuilding way overdue

AL West
LAA (Champ): Pujols puts them in a class by themselves
TEX (5 G, Wild Card): Will make playoff noise if they get out of the WC game
SEA (20 GB): Up and coming
OAK (25 GB): Spinning their wheels

NL East
PHI (Champ): Too much pitching, enough bats
ATL (10 GB, Wild Card): Good arms, but not enough bats
WAS (12 GB): Health dependent, but they got talent
MIA (18 GB): Overrated free agent moves
NYM (25 GB): A team rebuilding without a plan

NL Central
MIL (Champ): Aramis replaces enough of Fielder to get by
CIN (5 GB, Wild Card): Good balanced team, worried about pitching
STL (15 GB): Not near enough bats or LaRussa mojo
PIT (20 GB): See Cleveland comment
HOU (25 GB): Losing deer in headlights feeling with more experience
CHC (30 GB): Worst team in the majors

NL West
SF (Champ): Pitching will carry them, and Posey back
ARI (5 GB): It wasn't a fluke last year, good, deep team
LA (8 GB): Fewer distractions, MVP and Cy Young on team
COL (15 GB): Rotation is just flat weak
SD (25 GB): Will rival Cubs for worst team

Playoffs:
Wild Cards
TEX d. TB
CIN d. ATL

Divisional
TEX d. DET
NYY d. LAA
SF d. MIL
PHI d. CIN

LCS
TEX d. NYY
PHI d. SF

World Series
PHI d. TEX
